What should you consider when packing for a move? There are several things to consider that make the process easier and smoother and that we at Kvalitetsflytt always keep in mind when packing. First of all, a box should never weigh more than 17 kg for both load bearing and durability of the box itself. Otherwise, heavy items should always be packed at the bottom and light ones at the top – this is to give the box better stability when moving it. We also try to pack tightly to prevent the goods from moving around in the boxes when moving. If this is not possible, protective padding in the form of paper, fabric or other soft material is used. It is important when packing heavy items, such as books, not to fill more than half the box otherwise it is very easy to exceed the 17 kg weight.
Different types of packing for moving
If there are fragile items to be packed, a little extra thought is needed to protect them when moving. Porcelain, for example, is always packed with the heaviest at the bottom, the lightest at the top and with lots of paper as protective and filling material. Other fragile items such as lampshades or other soft items that can be damaged in transit should also be packed to protect them during the move. If, for example, a chest of drawers or similar items are also being moved, you can use the drawers as extra protection and pack inconspicuous items that are not too heavy in them. Soft and bulky items that take up a lot of space, such as duvets, pillows and the like, can be packed in garbage bags or other plastic – this makes them both light and compressible for the move.
